What retail and e-commerce operators use it for
- Acquiring an existing retail or e-commerce business
- Owner-occupied commercial real estate
- A large buildout with a long payback
- Refinancing expensive short-term debt into a 10-year amortisation
- Partner buyouts
Worked example
A seller acquiring a complementary brand for $1,200,000 brings a 10% equity injection and closes an SBA 7(a) over roughly nine weeks. Because the amortisation runs ten years rather than eighteen months, the monthly obligation is a fraction of what an advance of the same size would carry — which is the entire reason to accept the timeline.

SBA Loans — questions
Is Shelfline the SBA lender?
No. SBA 7(a) loans are originated by our FDIC-insured bank and SBA-preferred lending partners, because the product requires a chartered institution. We underwrite the file in house first and package and place it.
How long does it really take?
Four to twelve weeks. Anyone promising an SBA loan in days is describing a different product.
Can I bridge the gap while the SBA file closes?
Yes. A short working-capital advance that retires at closing is a common structure when a seller will not hold the asset for twelve weeks.
What kills SBA files?
Incomplete tax returns, an undisclosed obligation on the debt schedule, and an equity injection that cannot be sourced and seasoned.
Do I need real estate?
No. 7(a) covers working capital, acquisitions and equipment as well as owner-occupied property.
